Seth Harris on Bloomberg Discussing UAW, Teamsters, Biden, and Worker Militancy

I appeared on Bloomberg Television's Balance of Power with Annmarie Hordern and Joe Mathieu on Tuesday to discuss the state of workers and unions in America.

The discussion began with a focus on the negotiations between the UAW and the Big Three automakers. I made a prediction regarding the likelihood of a strike. Watch the clip below to see my prediction. The conversation quickly moved to the relationship between the UAW negotiations and President Biden's climate policies, particularly regarding the transition to electric vehicles and whether the jobs in that industry would be good union jobs.

After a clip of former President Trump inviting the UAW to endorse him, I offered a blunt prediction about whether that would happen given the former President's labor record. I'm trying to be polite. You should watch the clip to see what I actually said. It wasn't quite so polite.

My appearance took place less than one hour after the announcement that the Teamsters' UPS membership had ratified the union's contract with UPS. We touched on that subject, as well, but spoke more broadly about why worker activism, militancy, and strike activity is rising.  One part of my answer was that workers are tired of profits going to Wall Street rather than to them and their families.

Finally, I offered some advice about how will we know if there is going to be a UAW strike. Watch the clip to learn more.
