I appeared on Bloomberg TV's For What It's Worth with John Ehrlichman and Matt Miller on Monday, September 11 to discuss the latest in the negotiations between the United Auto Workers and the three large U.S. automakers: Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis.
I offered my prediction regarding whether there would be a strike after the deadline is reached on Thursday at midnight if the parties do not reach a deal. I also discussed two models for employer collective bargaining and labor relations that have emerged in recent months: UPS vs. the Hollywood studios. My view is that the likelihood that there will be an agreement fairly soon in the auto industry negotiations depends upon which model the automakers adopt. I did not have time to offer my prediction of the choice they would make. We will find out soon.
