William A. Herbert is a longtime labor activist in New York, and Distinguished Lecturer at Hunter College and the Executive Director of the National Center for the Study of Collective Bargaining in Higher Education and the Professions. His scholarship focuses on labor law, history, and policy including the impact of workplace technologies on privacy and associational rights.
Joseph van der Naald, is a National Center Affiliated Researcher and a doctoral student in Sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center. His research falls into the domains of economic, labor, and political sociology. His dissertation explores the emergence of the public sector labor movement in the Midwestern United States, focusing on the relationship between state-level collective bargaining laws and government worker union power.
Scott Phillipson is the Chair of the SEIU Higher Education Council and president of SEIU Local 200 United in upstate New York, a union of 15,000 members in New York, Vermont, and Pennsylvania. The Local represents both public and private sector workers in a variety of industries including over 25 Colleges and Universities where the local represents members on both the academic and facilities side of these institutions.
